Spring has official sprung...

… which means it’s time to dust off your cleaning and well… dust and clean! And our stables are no exception! Heading into spring is the perfect time to give your yard a freshen up and that means inside and out. While here at Foley’s Equestrian Surfaces, we’ve been helping people spring clean their riding schools, by providing all-weather, well draining, 100% contaminant free surfaces, we also have a few tips for the rest of your yard too!

Spring Clean Your Yard & Your Arena Surfaces This Season

  1. It’s Time To Grab That Disinfectant – now is the perfect time to lift those stable mats and disinfect the entire stable top to bottom. With the weather starting to give us better temperatures and dare we say it – sunshine – there’s no better time to put your equine pals outside and give their stables a serious disinfection from all of that winter time in. Scrub floors, walls and ceilings, hose off and leave to dry before they come back in their stables. Be sure to read all labels to make sure the solution you’re using is safe to be used around horses.
  2. Time To Scrub Bowls & Feed Buckets – while you may rinse and scrub after every feed, we guarantee your feed buckets are going to look at least a little grubby! It’s time to give them a full scrub and clean, to ensure they’re as safe as possible for your horse or pony to be eating out of. Bowl’s starting to get holes in them? Then it may be time to recycle the ones you have and get new ones for the spring season ahead.
  3. Don’t Forget The Roof Or Guttering – while we might not see it, we still need to consider the roof and guttering. Without keeping these spaces in shape, we could risk a leaking roof or guttering that stops working during the next winter and believe us when we say this is the last job you’ll want to be doing mid-winter.
  4. Check Light Fittings & Windows – if you have lighting and windows, make sure you check all fittings are still secure and in place, then make sure you check all windows and openings are still safe and secure. White vinegar is ideal for cleaning your winnows too, if you haven’t already disinfected them as it’s chemical free and leaves them spotless!
  5. Time To Check The Arena – check all boards and gates on the arena. Are these in good working order? Do they need replacing or repairing where possible? Are there any trip hazards? Do you need a topper for your current surface or even a brand new arena surface completely? We have an amazing spring sale on at the moment, which means you could change your surface for much less than you probably think!
  6. Check All Fencing In Every Field – whether you have summer fields, winter fields, autumn fields or even just the one for all year-round use, it’s time to check every strip of fencing to make sure every field is ready for the longer turnout you’re about to enjoy. While you might not think you need to tend to your winter field fencing, you should consider what might happen should you need to separate horses or even find yourself in need of a new turnout area should fencing become irreparable in the one you’re using. Think ahead, plan and make sure all fencing is safe for the rest of the year now. You’ll thank yourself come winter time.
